The next generation of gateway ECU’s for vehicles provides a broad range of functionality. The gateway acts as the data hub for multiple control units and assistance systems. Thus, the in-vehicle communication is a major aspect, the gateway software has to deal with. Furthermore, all external connections to cloud and remote services are in the functional scope to realize e.g. over the air software updates or remote diagnosis.
The great variety of requirements result in a highly complex system and software architecture. The hardware resources of these kind of gateway are enormous for an ECU.
comlet implemented the basic software for the various microcontrollers of the gateway. This included e.g. the event-based power management with various system states, in order to disable parts of the system, for example to save energy. In this context, the Suspend to RAM feature was also integrated, which enables a quick start of the system after the wake up.
In addition to the low-level software (partly also AUTOSAR-Software), a customer-specific embedded Linux system for the i.MX 6 controller was built based on Yocto. Many optimizations were developed in this context, for example to make partial functions available at an early stage of the system start up.
Among many other functions, software for analyzing abnormalities was implemented. This includes the logging and tracing of system and application data. This enables error analysis during development as well as the analysis of field returns.
