As a technology partner of the automotive industry, comlet Verteilte Systeme GmbH develops the vehicle communication of modern vehicles.

The next generation of gateway ECU’s for vehicles provides a broad range of functionality. The gateway acts as the data hub for multiple control units and assistance systems. Thus, the in-vehicle communication is a major aspect, the gateway software has to deal with. Furthermore, all external connections to cloud and remote services are in the functional scope to realize e.g. over the air software updates or remote diagnosis.

The great variety of requirements result in a highly complex system and software architecture. The hardware resources of these kind of gateway are enormous for an ECU.

comlet implemented the basic software for the various microcontrollers of the gateway. This included e.g. the event-based power management with various system states, in order to disable parts of the system, for example to save energy. In this context, the Suspend to RAM feature was also integrated, which enables a quick start of the system after the wake up.

In addition to the low-level software (partly also AUTOSAR-Software), a customer-specific embedded Linux system for the i.MX 6 controller was built based on Yocto. Many optimizations were developed in this context, for example to make partial functions available at an early stage of the system start up.

Among many other functions, software for analyzing abnormalities was implemented. This includes the logging and tracing of system and application data. This enables error analysis during development as well as the analysis of field returns.

comlet Verteilte Systeme GmbH delivers cross-sector embedded solutions for complex control systems

comlet Verteilte Systeme GmbH has been a partner of the automotive industry for almost 20 years developing the latest system generations together with well-known OEMs. “Especially in complex project setups with a heterogeneous supply chain structure, we can contribute our expertise.” says Managing Director Steffen Fromm. “This is where we can apply our know how in connected devices and distributed communication.” In today’s vehicles, data from various sources of information must be available to many applications. Data from the vehicle electrical system, but also from cloud services, is processed by navigation, engine control, lane keeping and distance warning systems, parking assist, traffic sign recognition or head-up displays.

The extensive expertise in the development of distributed systems is adaptable cross industrial. In addition to the automotive sector, comlet also addresses customers from the areas of commercial vehicles, smart home and industry 4.0.
