The AGV M4 from SAFELOG has now been officially certified by TÜV SÜD. To achieve this, the mobile transportrobot had to pass numerous demanding tests. From protection against splash water and dust to testing electromagnetic compatibility, SAFELOG’s certification proves that the M4 mobile transport robot fulfils all requirements. It not only fulfils European standards, but also American standards. The advantage: with NRTL certification, projects in the USA can now be realised even more quickly.

TÜV SÜD has been involved in testing mobile transport robots and automated guided vehicles for over five years and sets high standards in terms of safety and functionality. AGVs must reliably fulfil their tasks, operate safely and not endanger other road users.

The requirements of the Machinery Directive 2006/42 with the verification of EC conformity are fundamental here. Not only are stability tests and functional safety tests carried out in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1:2015, but electromagnetic compatibility and compliance with European telecommunications standards in accordance with ETSI are also tested. The provisions of the internationally applicable machine product standard EN-ISO 3691-4:2020 are also decisive. SAFELOG has fulfilled all these standards with the AGV M4 and has therefore received certification from TÜV SÜD. In addition, the transport robot has protection class IP 54 in accordance with DIN EN 60529. This means that the housing has complete protection against accidental contact. Dust can penetrate in small quantities, but must not restrict operation. The housing also protects against splashing water from all sides. This ensures, among other things, that no live components or windings come into contact with water.

Successful testing facilitates AGV use in the USA

Electrical products are subject to strict testing requirements in the USA. European standards such as EN standards or CE marks are not recognised. SAFELOG has therefore also commissioned TÜV SÜD to carry out testing in accordance with UL 3100 Edition 1, May 26, 2021. This is one of the few recognised institutions (Nationally Recognised Test Laboratory = NRTL) that is permitted to carry out testing outside the United States. Obtaining NRTL certification will significantly speed up the export and commissioning of AGVs in the future. This is because extensive individual testing by accredited inspectors is no longer necessary. Proof of valid NRTL certification will suffice for commissioning. “The tests by TÜV SÜD were demanding. We are pleased that we have fulfilled all the requirements with the AGV M4,” says Mathias Behounek, Managing Director of SAFELOG. “We will now continue with the AGV S3 and are confident that we will also receive TÜV certification for this mobile transport robot in the near future.”
