152 Interior Yanfeng showcases future interior experiences for autonomous rideshare XiM20 offers interiors for autonomous rideshare vehicles By Han Hendriks, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Yanfeng Technology Yanfeng, a leading global automotive supplier, unveiled its new Experience in Motion 2020 (XiM20) concept car for the first time in Europe. This is a fully autonomous rideshare concept, offering new consumer experiences which are customizable to passenger’s preferences to better suit their journeys. XiM20 is a reflection of the most in-depth primary research the company has done to date. For the development of the next gen- eration of the XiM concept car, it was important to evaluate users’ wants and needs within the vehicle and outside of the mobility context. The insights gleaned from our research defined which factors impact consumers’ quality of life and what creates memorable, engaging expe- riences. With the XiM20, advanced technol- ogies and product innovations complement intuitive design, providing flexibility and com- fort for the autonomous rideshare passengers of tomorrow. By camouflaging the demonstrator’s screens and navigation sys- tems within the surfaces of interior concept using intelligent surface technologies, pas- sengers can choose whether or not to engage with the innovations around them. As an industry leader, we have the capabil- ities to provide holistic total interior solu- tions. At the start of the development of this generation of the XiM we asked ourselves whether featuring every product and tech- nology available within this interior offers added value. Our research said “no.” Instead, we needed to learn to understand which solutions in automotive are engaging and positively surprising, without being overly complex.
