65 IT and Automotive Pocket Diagnostics Autonomous Diagnostic Interface with Integrated Tester – Flexible, Handy, Efficient By Philipp Numberger, product manager of the VIN|ING family at Softing Automotive Electronics GmbH A typical diagnostic setup consists of several components: Comprehensive test software runs on a PC and is connected with the vehicle via a vehicle interface either by cable or remotely. The setup requires a high level of expertise to perform error-free diagnostics and to avoid causing damage to the hardware, software or the vehicle itself. However, this structure is too complex, too cumbersome and ultimately too expensive for frequent vehicle changes, recurring test or flash operations, or use in remote locations. It therefore makes sense to use a more compact diagnostic solution in some scenarios, such as for subsequent programming during vehicle delivery or for diagnostic tests in road trial. Vehicle Interface with Integrated Diagnostic Tester This is precisely where Softing’s standalone interface comes in: VIN|ING 2000 PDX is a handy vehicle communication interface with an integrated diagnostic tester that can be used independently without a PC anywhere. Wherever it is used, it applies the diagnostic sequences stored in the runtime system. Handling the VIN|ING 2000 PDX is extremely simple. Once connected to the vehicle’s OBD jack, the programming sequence defined previously by an expert is activated at the push of a button. All you need to do is integrate an OTX sequence into the diagnostic project and link it to one of the two keys. Then, results can simply be downloaded and further processed via the PC application. The integrated diagnostic runtime system enables fast and error-free ECU programming, while the status displays visually show the progress by means of freely configurable RGB LEDs. The possible uses are many and varied: From status checks during the development phase to efficient vehicle programming Images: © Softing Automotive in post-production and diagnostic tests in road trials – VIN|ING 2000 PDX has proven indispensable in a variety of scenarios. It enables fast, uncomplicated on-site updating of ECUs, particularly in the event of recalls or for regular tasks. Concentration on Core Processes – Using Resources Efficiently In summary, VIN|ING 2000 PDX is a handy and easy-to-use autonomous diagnostic solution. This means that software updates and diagnostic tests can be carried out efficiently by semi-skilled personnel without in-depth diagnostic knowledge, while specialist personnel concentrate on the core processes. VIN|ING 2000 PDX is the ideal choice for vehicle manufacturers and Tier1 suppliers looking for efficient and cost-effective solutions for repetitive, time-consuming diagnostic and test tasks.
