Temperature model for component protection Components of the Gen2 eBooster have to be reliably protected from excessive thermal loads even in heavy usage conditions. For this purpose, BorgWarner developed an intelligent temperature model that determines critical temperatures via sensors. These tempera- tures are used to provide the percentage range which is basis for the utilization index. Based on this, component protection is ensured by intelligent derating of the eBooster taking into account the highest tolerable temperatures in critical areas. Measurements are provided by the eBooster´s printed circuit board via three termistors that measure the coolant tempera- ture in key areas along with the power elec- tronic part of the PCB. Higher performance at lower costs BorgWarner developed a new design for the eBooster´s EMC filter between the main PCB and DC supply in order to meet these complex requirements. The choke is working as a filter in common and differential mode. At the same time, the differential mode choke and the com- monmode chokewere combined into one part. The redesign enables the ferrite core to use the ferrite outer ring as the common mode path, the tongue being the defined differential mode path in this configuration, combined with an air gap and the outer ring. This minimizes DC losses caused by the low current density of the bus bars. The magnetic flux largely remains in the ferrite core with the core design affecting the differential mode. Advanced technology for optimized fuel economy and performance BorgWarner´s new Gen2 eBooster supports OEMs in their efforts to design more com- pact and powerful engines with low torque. The electrically driven 48V compressor is em- ployed to complement the conventional tur- bocharger, significantly improving efficiency and fuel economy.
